The Banyan Tree Network (BTN) is set for its UK launch at Paisley Town Hall in Glasgow on the weekend of 29-30th August 2026. Driven by American Hindu thought leader Rajiv Malhotra, the BTN seeks to bring together organisations that work for the furthering of Dharma in order to share learning, collaborate and offer mutual support. Over 100 organisations across the globe are now part of the network. The vision of BTN is based upon the metaphor of vata or banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis), a native species to India that is held as sacred in Hindu Dharma. Much like the sprawling roots and branch system of the banyan tree, which create a large canopy like structure that shelters an array of other species, the BTN seeks to enable Dharmic organisations to come together and cooperate whilst remaining independent in their thinking and ideas.
The BTN held its first meeting and launched its manifesto in Princeton, USA in April 2025. In November 2025, the BTN held a second meeting in Delhi, India, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Rajiv Malhotra’s public intellectual work and his 75th birthday. This August’s event in Glasgow, will host policymakers, academics and community leaders from across the UK and the Hindu diaspora who will engage in discussions around critical issues impacting the British Hindu community.
