Hindu American Awareness and Appreciation Month gains traction

Hindu Heritage Month (HHM) is a global movement to highlight Hinduism as a tradition and contributions Hinduism has made to human society. October has been chosen for this initiative as two of the largest Hindu festivals Dusshera and Diwali often take place during this month. Partnering with HHM, Hindu American Awareness and Appreciation Month (HAAAM) aims to talk about the contributions of Hindus and Hindu Dharma specifically within the context of the United States.

Since 2013 the Hindu American Foundation has been working to get HAAAM adopted by California and other states. With Georgia passing a resolution back in September of this year, there are now 18 states that have recognised October as Hindu Heritage Month. In addition, 40 cities have also issued Proclamations in support of this month.
