Launching the UK’s first Anti-Hindu hate monitoring tool

The Anti-Hindu Hate Monitor (AHHM) developed by the International Centre for Sustainability (ICfS) @theicfs, was launched at their London office on 14th May 2026. The first of its kind, the AHHM is the UK’s dedicated tool for the reporting of anti-Hindu hate incidents. The phenomenon of Hindus being discriminated against or abused simply for being Hindu is poorly understood and widely underreported. The absence of a recognised definition of anti-Hindu hate and government policy, discourages some victims from reporting to authorities as they do not feel confident they will be taken seriously. Underreporting feeds into the paucity of data which currently prevents policy makers from understanding the scale and nature of the problem. Furthermore, without data, incidents of anti-Hindu hate are seen as isolated incidents. By recording details of cases of anti-Hindu hate, the AHHM seeks to address this gap.

The AHHM portal captures cases of anti-Hindu hate across nine categories: assault, vandalism, threats, hate speech, online abuse and anti-Hindu literature. In addition to Hindus, hate against members of other Dharmic communities (i.e. Sikhs, Jains) will also be tracked. From the data collected, the ICfS will publish reports every year with the first expected by the end of 2026. It is hoped such reports will then enable policymakers, law enforcement agencies and local authorities to make more informed decisions on how to support the Hindu community. The AHHM is not intended to provide victim support and is not a medium to report hate crimes. Anti-Muslim hate and antisemitism are better understood and discussed in British due to more report reporting mechanisms for members of Britain’s Muslim and Jewish communities. The AHHM has therefore been developed with learnings from the reporting processes at the Community Security Trust (CST), who monitor antisemitism, as well as Tell MAMA which monitors anti-Muslim hate.
