Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to be installed in Israel

6th June 2026: On the day of Shivrajyabhishek Din (coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj), Israel’s Consul General, Yaniv Revach, in Mumbai, announced plans for Isreal to install a grant statue of the revered 17th century Hindu Maratha freedom fighter. Revach explains the vision behind the project, “We understand… how important Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is to India… It would be more than just a regular project, but it’s going to be a project for the long run… We plan to bring it to one of the big cities in Israel… Wherever I travel in India, I see a great respect in the eyes of people towards Israel and our national heroes. I believe that we need to make efforts to create greater awareness about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Israel.”

Writing to Maharashtra’s chief minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking support for the project, Revach explains, “We believe that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Israel would serve as a powerful symbol of the close ties between Israel and India. Such a monument would be especially meaningful given the historical links between Maharashtra and the Indian Jewish community, many of whose descendants today contribute significantly to Israeli society.”. Maharashtra has been home to one India’s major Jewish populations that traces a 2000 year old presence.
