Welsh Faith Leaders Recognise anti-Hindu prejudice

8th September 2026: Sixteen faith leaders from across Wales, representing Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Christian and other communities, have written a joint open letter to Members of the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) as the new political term begins. 291 hate crimes against Hindus were recorded across England and Wales in 2022/23 (Home Office data), up from 161 the year before.

The letter names antisemitism, anti-Hindu prejudice, Islamophobia and prejudice based on religion or ethnicity as forms of discrimination that “must be rejected.” Signatories highlight the contribution faith communities make to education, healthcare and other frontline services, describing places of worship as hubs for social outreach and integration.

The leaders say they want to share examples of faith-based public service at local level and deepen “cooperation, mutual understanding and acceptance” between faith communities and the Senedd as the new term gets underway.

It’s a welcome, but rare, example of anti-Hindu prejudice being named explicitly alongside antisemitism and Islamophobia in a mainstream political statement.
